TikTok and Television

TikTok and Television        This blog was originally used for movie reviews, but I wanted to talk about something different. Lately, I have noticed how much TikTok has impacted live viewings of TV shows. One specifically that I have been watching is Dancing with the Stars. Dancing with the Stars has been airing for years and is currently on season 34. One of the most loved parts about the show is the fan votes. Couples on the show are not only eliminated based on the judges scores, but by how many votes they have from the public. Before TikTok and other social medias, fans were able to vote for their favorites from home without any outside input. Now, it is almost "decided" who is or isn't going home online. This also is a problem because it brings lots of unwanted criticism from online users. This season has brought many critiques from pros "not knowing how to choreograph" and stars that "do not deserve to win because they have prior dance expe...

Movie Review 6: Nosferatu

Image
Movie Review 6 Movie: Nosferatu Duration: 2 hr 12 min Year: 2024 Director: Robert Eggers Cast: Lily Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult, Bill Skarsgard, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Willem Dafoe, Emma Corrin My rating: 3/5 stars The story of Nosferatu has been alive since the early 1920s. This retelling of the story of Nosferatu was a hit with horror lovers. It follows the story of Ellen and her husband Thomas. Thomas comes in contact with Nosferatu, but he does not know that his wife has been in contact with him for many years. I would say this movie was very weird, but oddly good. The thing that stood out to me the most was the acting. Lily Rose Depp does an amazing job in this genre. Bill Skarsgard as Nosferatu is just impressive. It was hard to even believe it was him. Another thing that was very impressive with this film was the set design and the production. They 1830's Germany look scary and it fit the mood of the film perfectly. Like I said before, this movie was very weird. The character o...

Movie Review 5: Hereditary

Image
Movie Review 5 Movie: "Hereditary" Duration: 2 hrs 7 mins Year: 2018 Directed By: Ari Aster Cast: Toni Colette, Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro, Gabriel Byrne My rating: 2.5/5 stars      "Hereditary" is a horror film focused on a seemingly regular family. The mom's mother just passed away, and they are trying to regain some normalcy in their grief. However, tragedy continues to strike the small family of four. It seems that the grandma was involved in things the family did not know about.           This film is honestly a little tricky for me to review. For the storyline, I did not really enjoy it, but I think that is kind of the whole point. The story is very disturbing, and has some very odd and scary scenes. It gets very dark and I never knew what was going to happen next. I tend to like scary movies but this one was just horrifying in some parts. It is also very raw and real and deals with lots of grief.     Even though I did not real...

Movie Review 4: The Twister: Caught in the Storm

Image
Movie Review 4 Movie: Twister: Caught in the Storm Duration: 1 hr 28 min Year: 2025 Directed By: Alexandra Lacey My rating: 4/5 stars The Twister is a Netflix documentary that features several survivors of the EF-5 tornado that tore through Joplin, Missouri on May 22, 2011. The tornado was on the ground for over 20 miles and was over a mile wide at its widest point. It killed 158 people and injured over 1,150. The documentary follows along with several different people who tell their story of where they were that day in Joplin. I really liked this documentary. In the beginning of the doc I was kinda unsure of where it was going. It was kind of going different directions with some of the stories of specific people and their back stories but I would say it did all come together and make sense. Once they started telling about the tornado happening it picked up a ton. It honestly felt like I was with them. The doc features lots of real footage of the tornado, as well as news broadcasts fro...

Movie Review 3: Kill Bill

Image
Movie Review 3 Movie: "Kill Bill" Duration: 1 hr 51 min Year: 2003 Directed By: Quentin Tarantino Cast: Uma Thurman, Lucy Liu, Daryl Hannah My rating: 5/5 stars Uma Thurman stars as a nameless bride with the code name "Black Mamba" in this thrilling film. After being the only survivor at her own wedding, she sets out to murder each and every one of her attackers. These attackers are a part of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, which this bride was once a part of. She had left due to being pregnant and wanting to live a better life for her daughter, but those plans were ruined by the Vipers. The film follows this bride as she marks off her attackers off of her "kill list". It is very action packed and most of the movie is set in Japan. "Kill Bill" is a really popular movie that I have heard a lot about but I had never seen before. I didn't really know what to expect but I ended up loving it. It is a pretty gory movie and the killing is very...

Movie Review 2: Soul

Image
Movie Review 2 Movie: Soul Duration: 1 hr and 40 min Year: 2020 Directed by: Pete Docter Cast: Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Angela Bassett My rating: 4.5/5 stars Joe Gardner is a middle school band teacher with big dreams of becoming a musician. He finally believes he got his big break when he  unexpectedly dies. He finds himself on a large staircase heading towards what is known as "the great beyond". Frantic, Joe somehow escapes and is now a place where new souls go to earth. Here he meets "22", a new soul who refuses to go to earth. Together, they try and come up with a plan that gets Joe back to earth so he can succeed in his dream of being a jazz musician. I really loved this movie. It was very thought provoking and had a really beautiful meaning behind it. All of the characters were very likable and believable. Even though this is technically a kids movie, it really does have a lot of purpose behind it. I honestly think this is more fitting for adults to see becaus...

Movie Review 1: 8 Seconds

Image
Movie Review 1 Movie: 8 Seconds Duration: 1 hr 45 m Year: 1994 Directed by: John G. Avildsen Cast: Luke Perry, Stephan Baldwin, Cynthia Geary, Red Mitchell My rating: 3.5/5 stars     8 seconds is the true story that covers the life of famous bull rider Lane Frost. Frost was an Oklahoma native and grew up in Lane, Oklahoma. He made history when he won the world championship in 1987 at just 23 years old. He tragically died in 1989 at 25 after being gored by a bull in Cheyenne, Wyoming.  He was married to Kelly Frost and had no children when he died.          I think the 1994 film 8 seconds  pays a good tribute to Lane Frost and his life. Frost is depicted as a young, brave, and joyful bull rider, even though his poor relationship with his father causes him some hiccups along the way. The film not only shows his journey to becoming a world champion....
